Choose a USPS mailing option in two steps: first select the service that fits the mailpiece and delivery need, then select a compatible way to pay and print postage.
Step 1: identify the mailpiece and result

Step 2: choose how to pay postage
- Adhesive stamps: simple for eligible letters and low-volume mail.
- Click-N-Ship or PC Postage: creates paid labels from measured shipment data.
- Postage meter: an authorized leased system for recurring office mail.
- Permit imprint: a prepared commercial-mail payment method with authorization and deposit rules.
- Precanceled stamps: a specialized business-mail method, not discounted retail Forever stamps.
The payment method does not itself define delivery speed. Confirm it is allowed for the selected service and preparation.
Practical routing examples
Ordinary correspondence
A qualifying one-ounce domestic letter can use a Forever stamp. Weight, square shape, rigidity or unusual thickness may change the amount or category.
Package with tracking
Measure the sealed package and compare the eligible package services. An online address-and-postage label is usually clearer than covering the box with many stamps.
Recurring business mail
Compare online postage, meters and commercial-mail programs using total operating cost, preparation labor, records and deposit requirements.
