Choose a postage stamp project only after deciding whether the material is a collectible original, a common used stamp, valid unused postage, a licensed reproduction or an original stamp-inspired graphic.

Project ideas

  • Build a color-gradient collage from common duplicate used stamps.
  • Create a map that groups stamps by issuing country or depicted place.
  • Make a reversible framed timeline with archival corners.
  • Design a postal-history study around an intact envelope and its route.
  • Use enlarged licensed images for a classroom design-analysis board.
  • Create an original perforated-frame motif without copying an existing stamp.

Preservation check before crafting

Do not soak, trim, clean or remove a stamp from a cover until its identity and context are understood. Use acid-free materials for originals, avoid pressure-sensitive tape, keep paper away from glazing and direct sunlight, and prefer reversible mounting when future value or research matters.

Copyright and mailing validity

A publicly visible stamp image is not automatically free for commercial reuse. Check the rights statement for every source image. Decorative seals, replicas and stamp-inspired graphics do not pay postage and must not imitate an indicium in a way that creates confusion.

For original-stamp display methods, see the vintage stamps guide.
