Yes, eBay has stamp listings, but they serve two very different markets: collectible philately and postage described as unused and usable. Decide which one you are buying before evaluating the listing.
For postage you intend to mail with
- Confirm the stamps are described as unused, not cancelled or removed from mail.
- Identify exact denominations or Forever service and total count.
- Review actual-item photos instead of relying only on catalog images.
- Compare the price with total postage value; investigate implausible discounts.
- Read seller identity, provenance statements and return protection.
For a collectible purchase
Issue identity, catalog number, gum, centering, perforations, faults, cancellation and provenance matter more than the amount the stamp can pay toward mail. A high asking price or “rare” title is not a completed-sale comparison or expert certificate.
What eBay policy does—and does not—show
eBay prohibits counterfeit items. That policy provides a reporting and enforcement framework, but it does not mean every individual listing has been authenticated. Platform feedback also cannot establish the origin of one lot.
After delivery
- Compare the received count and format with the listing.
- Keep the mailer, invoice and listing screenshots.
- Do not use postage that appears altered or inconsistent.
- Use the platform dispute process when the item is not as described.
- Report suspected counterfeit postage through USPIS.
