A self-addressed stamped envelope is a return envelope prepared in advance so the recipient can send something back to you.
Prepare the return envelope
- Choose an envelope large enough for the expected return item.
- Write your own address in the center as the delivery address.
- Add a return address if requested or useful.
- Affix adequate postage in the upper-right.
Estimate return postage
Account for everything that will come back: forms, photos, documents, cards, or another envelope. Size, rigidity, and weight can change the rate.
Put it in the outer envelope
Fold the return envelope only if appropriate and allowed by the recipient’s instructions. Address and stamp the outer envelope separately.
