The 1997 Classic Movie Monsters issue contains five 32-cent stamps, including The Phantom of the Opera, which was missing from the previous article.
All five designs
The subjects are Bela Lugosi as Dracula, Lon Chaney as The Phantom of the Opera, Lon Chaney Jr. as The Wolf Man, and Boris Karloff as both The Mummy and Frankenstein’s monster.
Issue record
USPS issued the set September 30, 1997, in Universal City, California. These are fixed-denomination commemorative stamps, not Forever stamps.
Identification
Check all five subjects, the 32-cent denomination, issue format and condition when evaluating a set. A four-subject group is incomplete.
Value boundary
Film importance does not establish rarity. Separate remaining postage value from collector value and use exact-condition completed sales for market comparisons.
